Re: Boone T. Muir, Quantrill's Guerillas

Cousin Nancy,
Capt. Dick (Richard Francis) Yager (1839-1864) was a 1st cousin of my GGGrandmother Margaret Watts Hays Overstreet and she wrote of him in her letters to her mother in the Watts Hays Letters. If you go to the website and look in the People Index you can read the letters he is mentioned in.

I have not found where he is buried, but apparently he was buried near where he was killed in Saline Co., MO. In 1871, Margaret wrote that his body was to be reburied with other Jackson Co., MO Confederates in the Confederate burying ground at Self's Schoolhouse near Kansas City. All of the people buried there and the Confederate Monument were moved to Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date. See Letters 81 and 82 and the footnotes have a long article from the Kansas City Star about the Confederate reburials. I don't know whether his original grave was located or if his remains were reburied with the other Confederate dead.

Please write to me at owl@mcn.org and I can send you the information from my files on the Yager, Berry and Muir families. I'm looking for a photo of Dick Yager to put on the website. I have read that there is one in one of the books about Quantrill but haven't been able to find it.

There is also a series of messages on this Board about Dick Yager's death.

Marian
