I just looked up the data as previously reported and there is in fact a spring on the headwaters of Pond Creek marked on the Brookline Missouri USGS Topo map that matches the PLSS descripton given in the history above. The map does not name the spring per se. It is located westsouthwest of Springfield and a bit north and west of Wilsons Creek Battlefield. Currently if you take I44 out of Springfield, take the Route N exit go south on N it looks to be roughly 2.5 miles give or take south of the interstate. N runs almost due south to Rebuplic, MO.

UTM data is 15 457660E 4113548N (NAD27)

It appears to be right in the corner of the township and there also appears on the map a road junction, likely gravel, with at least one house and barn in the vicinty. From a larger perspective its in the natural valley running south from Bois D'Arc to Republic and the road appears to follow the creek line pretty well north of the interstate and the township line south. Its one ridge over from Wilsons creek. This is of course a bit of Boy Scout topo map sleuthing but its a start and I'd bet someone in Republic MO could tell us for sure. Try the link included.
