I'm wondering if there wasn't some sort of connection between the Gardner and Grant families back in Ohio, and maybe before that in New England. Grants and Gardners track back to both places.

Orrin's father was Caleb Gardner, born New York ca. 1800. I lose track of the family the generation before him, but two generations before that there was another Caleb Gardner who was a very prominent slaver, making me wonder if that wasn't a genesis to subsequent ardent Gardner family abolitionism. I don't know if the two Calebs connect though. Just interesting to figure out these hellbent guys very strong motivations sometimes. Anyway, this is getting way out into the weeds.
