The Missouri state militia

First of all, what were these regiments armed with?

Second, were they any match for the volunteer cavalry regiment in the confederate army? I’m thinking about Shelbys Brigade and other brigades of that quality.

In October 1864 Alfred Pleasanton didn’t think much of the Missouri state militia. That’s why he waited for Griersons division to join him in St. Louis before he took the field against Price. And in fact the division won the battles at Big blue and Mine creek
