Kirby, I see that Argyle's book is listed in American Fiction, 1901-1925: A Bibliography by Geoffrey D. Smith (1997). But it could have been autobiographical fiction. Another source says Harvey Argyle was the pen name of John Jackson McIntire. There was a Pvt John McIntire in the 67th EMM from Montgomery County and Lt. James McIntire in the same company. 1860 census shows James McIntire age 36 a hotel keeper in Wellsville and son John 14. Hope this helps give you some leads.
