Forgot one on his own porch...
In the spring of 1863, a group of men in Union uniforms rode to his home in Cedar County, and asked to talk with him. He and his wife Elizabeth greeted them on the porch. When one of the men asked to see Obediah's rifle, he gave it to him. The man, who was really a Confederate raider, shot him dead with his own gun.
