"The chief guerrilla action of Thursday, September 1 was Todd's raid on Tipton in west Moniteau County, guided by Warren Welch and the other nine men who scouted Cooper and Moniteau Counties a few days previously. Todd brought 40 of his own band - including Welsh and his scouts - and David Poole and his 30 guerrillas who reached Tipton at six in the morning."
