John J/W records are mixed up together in the CSR's

John W appears on a roll of prisoners surrendered at New Orleans May 26, 1865 and paroled Shreveport June 7, 1865.

From James W Oklahoma pension return:June 18, 1915
"Respectfully returned to the Chairman, Oklahoma Board of Pension Commissioners, Oklahoma Ok. No record has been found in this office of an organization know as Company A Pinnells [sic] Battalion of Sharpshooters, CSA nor has any record of service, capture or parole of a man named J M Downing of Company A, 9th Battalion (Pindall's) Missouri Sharpshooters, CSA. The Confederate records do show however, that one James Downing, private of the last named organization, enlisted August 15, 1862, at West Plains, and on an undated muster roll on file, he was reported absent; left sick on march between Ft Smith and Lewisburgh. He is shown to have deserted December 27, 1863 at Camp Mazard. The Union prisoner of war records show the said Downing was surrendered at New Orleans, La., on May 26,1865 and paroled at Shreveport, La., on June 7, 1865."

William's record indicates enlistment Aug 29, 1862 at Thomasville MO by Maj Locket for the war. Served as 4th Sargt. Left sick Lewisburgh Nov 15, 1863. He next appears on a hospital roll dated April 18 -20 1865 CSA general hospital Shreveport LA. He is also include on the New Orleans prisoner of war roll as noted above.
