Downing Bros. in Pindall's Sharpshooters

In a first person memoir, a relative tells of three Downing brothers living in the area that would become Mary's Home, Missouri. It appears that all three were in Company A of Pindall's Sharpshooters and at least one of the brothers was killed. I know one brother returned to the area and remained there, and is buried in a nearby cemetery. Here are their names and ages as of 1860: William C. Downing age 23, John W. Downing age 18, and James M. Downing age 15. Some records on Fold3 indicate that James deserted in Arkansas in 1862. The memoir describes a trip his mother made to Arkansas to see him when he was ill. I know little about this unit, but would appreciate any help in learning more about their service. John is the brother that lived out his life near Mary's Home. Thank you.
