Mil'y Commissioner of Mo.

Is anyone familiar with the military commission of Missouri, or military commissioners? Thomas D. Day was in the hardware business in St. Louis prior to the war and he has one page in the service records that shows him being a major assigned in the Trans-Mississippi. In a May 1863 he placed an ad in a Natchez newspaper asking for lint and clothing for the aid of wounded soldiers and signed off as being a major and "Mil'y Commissioner of Mo."
