Richard,

On 18 July 1862 Union Major John Y Clopper and troopers of his "Merrill's Horse" (also known as 2nd Missouri Cavalry) and 11th Cavalry Missouri State Militia fought a two-hour battle with 125 southerners under COL Joseph C. Porter and Bill Dunn's guerrillas mostly of Schuyler County. This fight was said to be located near Memphis in Scotland County, but also called Pearce's Mill or Pierce's Mill on the Middle Fabius River. When the fight was over 13 Union troopers were killed and 35 wounded compared to 6 southern dead, 3 mortally wounded, and 10 wounded.

Could that be the right battle?
