Bruce: I think that the unit involved was a regiment recruited by Capt. Eli Hodge, formerly adjutant of the 11th MO Cavalry Regiment. He recruited several companies north of the MO River during the Price Raid and organized a regiment at Waverly. According to one source I have seen only about one-third of Hodge's men were armed. After the regiment reached Texas it was disbanded and elements became part of Col. David Williams’ new regiment.

8/29/64 Capt’s D A Williams and Eli Hodge are authorized to go to Missouri and recruit & organize a Regt of Cav for the war. No Co will be rec’d into this organization with less than 80 rank and file.
