Yelvington and Augustus G. Atkins, brothers of Susan Atkins, both served in the same outfit** with that of my great grandfather Uriah W. Thompson. The three were on their way home when a Federal scouting party captured them. They were placed in the Federal Military Prison at Alton, Illinois.

Sarah Thompson, took little Milton and made a trip to the prison at Alton, Illinois to see Uriah. Uriah wanted to see his only son before he died and from my data I find that he was very happy to have a fine son. Just a short while after this Uriah passed on from starvation.
