Initially Gordon's regiment of Jeff Thompson's Iron Brigade attacked the various units of the Kansas State Militia. However he was unable to drive back the 2nd KSM at the Mockbee Farm. Shelby ordered Jackman's brigade into action. Jackman wiped out the 2nd KSM. Take a look at Jackman's report in the official records.
