Re: John Legrand
In Response To: John Legrand ()

Your John Legrand Jr and his brother, William Legrand, along with other brothers, Andrew Jackson Legrand and James Legrand were all in the Missouri Volunteers, 33rd Regiment Infantry Volunteers of Iron Co., MO.

Both John and William Legrand had children, and both seem to have been deceased by 1870. I have some probate information for William that shows his children received his U. S. Pension; therefore, William must have died during Civil War as the pension payments were from the 1860's and 1870's.

I didn't find the same kind of record for the John Legrand Jr family. Since you asked about John Legrand, he married Keziah King, who is shown in the 1850 St. Francois Co., MO census, as is John Legrand Jr, son of John H. Legrand Sr. and his first wife, Nancy. By 1850 John Sr had remarried Sophia (Hanks) Lynch-Legrand 4 Oct 1842 in Dubois Co., IN.

John seems to be the same John Legrand that married Keziah King in St. Clair Co., MO, even tho they were living in St. Francois Co., MO in 1850.

By 1880 Keziah and Reuben are staying with another family and both girls, Mary and Lavina (Serena) have both married Jordans, and are widows. Her death certificate names her father as John Legrand, as does the death certificate of Reuben Lagrand [Legrand]. Both have their mother as unknown by informants.
