Documenting a 'Biggs' in 100th Colored Infantry

Your knowledge is asked of you again. A second cousin brought this to my attention a few days ago. Family Genealogy has one 'Henry Pinkney Biggs' documented as: White. A FAG Memorial now has a posting that states he was a Pvt. in Co. "H" of the 100th Colored Infantry out of Greenupsburg, Kentucky {Greenup County}. I do not recall any mentioning, documenting this man in the Civil War. Documentation says he was born in Kentucky before 1850 and moved to Missouri by 1860 Census in St. Clair County, Missouri. {Southwestern part} I'm approaching this as common sense asks me: Why did he leave Missouri and go some 569 miles almost due East of Springfield, Missouri to join the Union Army when he was in the middle of it in Missouri with the rest of his kinfolk? A young white man traveled from Western part of Missouri to Kentucky to join a Colored Unit/Regiment? I did find mention of this Unit/Regiment, but can not get to the records to search for his name. What am I missing? Any suggestions are Welcomed! * I think this is Wrong Record attached to Wrong person, but would like to solve it. Thank You,
