Re: Questions About the 15th Missouri Infantry

The incident is mentioned in Donald Allendorf, Long Road to Liberty: The Odyssey of a German Regiment in the Yankee Army, The 15th Missouri Volunteer Infantry Kent: Kent State Press, 2006, pps. 102-103. He indicates that Colonel Joseph Conrad resumed command of the regiment on April 10, 1863. He continues that "Sometime after Conrad's arrival, the 15th was sent out on one of Sheridan's expeditions." He then quotes Sheridan's memoir of the two women getting drunk and being located and sent to army headquarters.

He next describes the regiment receiving pup tents and then quotes Marcoot's memoirs by stating "The month of May was passed so nearly like that of April...."

Thus, by implication, it appears that the incident involving the two females must have occurred in April, 1863.
