10th MO Infantry

10th Missouri Infantry Rgt.

Cols. W. M. Moore, Alexander C. Pickett, A. E. Steen,
LtCol. Simon Harris, Maj. Elijah Magoffin

The regiment, also called the 12th Mo. Infantry Rgt., was organized in November 1862 and included men from Chariton, Crawford and Howard counties. It was assigned to A. E. Steen's, Parson's, and S. P. Burns' brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. It lost 11 killed, 41 wounded and 237 missing at Helena, Ark. and mustered 236 men after the fight. The regiment lost 34 at Pleasant Hill, La. and 10 at Jenkins' Ferry, Ark. It disbanded during the spring of 1865.

The 10th wrapped up its war time experience in southern Arkansas and in Northern Louisiana. On June 8, 1865, the soldiers of the 10th Missouri Infantry Regiment received their paroles. Finally they boarded the steamer E. H. Fairchild for their return trip home.

Vol. Infantry, Confederate States Army, commanded by Col. Wm. M. Moore, surrendered at New Orleans, La., by General E. K. Smith, C. S. A., to Maj. Gen. E. R. S. Canby, U. S. A., May 26, 1865, and paroled at Camp Allen, La., June 8, 1865, resident of Jefferson County, Mo.
