Thanks for bringing this article to our attention. It's the only picture I've seen of Col. George Hall, younger brother of Lt. Gov/Gov Willard P. Hall and Congressman William Hall. One of W.P. Hall's last acts as governor in early 1865 was to nominate George as Brig. Gen. of the Missouri State Militia and he was so commissioned. Col. Hall was lucky to be transferred early in the war from the command of Ben Loan (under whom Hall's 4th and William Penick's 5th regiments had been raised) in Central Missouri to southwest Missouri under Egbert Brown. There he escaped the central Missouri cauldron of Radical vs Conservative that cost the Radical William Penick his command and crippled conservative commanders McFerran of the 1st and Guitar of the 9th. Lucky man but also seems to have been an excellent commander.

Thanks, Tom Jones
