It is also interesting that they continued to be paid for their horses even after the 3rd BN MO Cavalry was dismounted. James McGhee's "Guide to Missouri Confederate Units.." says they were dismounted before the unit crossed the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862. The horses were left in Arkansas with 50 men designated as herdsmen.
