I am looking to prove or disprove a family story about Heinrich "Henry" Gerlt, born in 1814 in Hanover, Germany and died on 21 Jun 1964 in Morgan County, Missouri. The family story is that he was hung by bushwhackers looking for the gold he supposedly had. He survived by being cut down by Jane, his 2nd wife, but the bushwhackers came back and shot him dead. I am especially interested to find out if anyone else has heard this story and if it can be verified. If I can find out if guerilla warfare existed in Morgan County, then that would help in verifying the story. I appreciate any help anyone can give.
