Re: Union Militias and Murders in South Central MO

Thanks for your information Bruce. I've read the books you refer to about the Tilley murder and am familiar with the Roubidoux Creek and the area where the Tilley family lived. I've also read your volumes. The Chitwoods referred to in my message were Union and were from Linn Creek/Camden County. I haven't found a familial link to the other Chitwoods in your volume who were on the opposite side of the conflict.
I mentioned Tilley's murder because the circumstances closely correlate with the murder of Calloway Manes a month earlier in the same area. His home is on the National Registry of Historic Places because of the murder. Letters written by a family member, who was a Union soldier living at the time, name Josh Chitwood and men of Company G. G.O. 107 played a significant role in the story. In your research have you come across this family - Richard, William, and especially Josh Chitwood - or guerillas operating in Camden/Pulaski Counties circa 1864?
Thanks again for your help.
