I found this book at archive.org and after reading some of the chapter prior to this excerpt; it gives me the impression that this group of Pins may have been some of the guerrillas who remained independent. You would think that there would be other accounts from other Confederates of such a one sided victory as given in this account. The possibility of the Pins being independent would account for a lack of Union accounts of losses to their regiments.
