Update, the best I can suggest as to what engagements he had participate in would be to review the 13th Illinois history and searching for Bowen.

Ferdinand Vogle, Private, Company C, Bowen’s Battalion, Missouri Cavalry,* enlisted July 15, 1861 at Rolla, Mo. for 3 years,
wounded at Springfield August 10, 1861 while the battalion was attached to the 13th Illinois Infantry, absent at the September 1, 1861 muster, subsequently present at the Sep/Oct, 1861 muster, on detached service August 28, 1862 but present, Corporal, at the Sep/Oct, 1862 muster, the 9th Missouri Cavalry was consolidated with the 10th Missouri Cavalry in December, 1862, present at the end of year muster, admitted to hospital boat Isabella January 10 1863, discharged because of disability February 21, 1863, “Double oblique complete inquinal Hernia, contacted in Salem, Missouri in November, 1863,” description, 33 year old Farmer, 5’ 2”, dark complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair, discharged from St. Louis Hospital March 21, 1863

* This organization subsequently became Company C, 9th Regiment Missouri Cavalry
