Isaac W. Short, 23 year old Farmer, born in Graves County[?], Kentucky, Private, Company F, 6th Regiment Missouri Infantry,* enlisted January 5, 1862 at Springfield, Mo. by J. M. Weidemor for 3 years, paid $50 bounty, appointed 3rd Corporal December 12, 1862, captured at Vicksburg, Miss. July 4, 1863, paroled July 7,** promoted 2nd Sergeant November 1, 1863, engaged at Carthage, Oak Hill, Drywood, Lexington, Elk House, Iuka, Corinth, Grand Gulf, Port Gibson, Vicksburg, Georgia Campaign, 1864, “killed dead on field” October 5, 1864, Altonna, Ga., Badge of Honor awarded for Gallantry by Co., pre war resident of Osceola, St. Clair, County, Mo.

* This company formerly served as Company D, 3rd Battalion Missouri Infatnry; it became Company F, 6th Regiment Missouri Infantry, about August 23, 1862

** Note: July 4th we were ordered by Lieut. Gen’l Pemberton to march out in front of the breastworks and stack arms, as he had capitulated on terms. July 7th we were paroled

Special Order No. 17, Headquarters Paroled Prisoners, Demopolis, Ala., dated October 1, 1863, directed that “The regiments of Cockrell’s Brigade, Missouri Volunteers, will be consolidated as follows: * * * The 2nd Missouri (^ Cos.) and the 6th Missouri (4 Co.s) to be consolidated into one regiment to be known as the 2 and 6 Missouri Regiment. The regiments will, for muster and pay, preserve their original organization; in all other respects the consolidated commands will be considered as one organization.”
