Re: Details of Sept. 1862 action near Hartville?

Bruce,

We appear to be looking at different editions of "Sterling Price's Lts." I have the "Revised Expanded Edition" from 2007. (I've used the older edition some in the distant past, but don't have a copy of it handy at this time to cross check.) The newer edition has some indexing errors/page shift in the index in various places--I don't have a good handle on where, only that I have to search a few pages before and after at times to find an entry...or not find it at all. I've been doing a few mark ups to the index when I remember to.

The entry I have found for "Joseph K. Polk Frazier" is on p. 293. This matches the index page number. Much of Julian Frazier's info is on the same page. In addition there is a tentative Capt. McMinn connection to Julian on a note on p. 310...something I noticed in the O.R. (or some other report) for McMinn as well as seeing some cross links in the 1850 and/or 1860 census and the country history that were enticing.

"The Forgotten Men" reference to Julian Frazier in the rev/exp ed. of SPL is on p. 290, footnote 587 (?) and cites p. 21 of Bartels' work. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing how those two link on that page (21). The SPL reference is to the revolving door command of the VII Div MSG. Correction, I just figured it out. The footnote should read "p. 20" since it is for a man named "Binns." The entry for Binns includes "Colonel Julian Frazier Comdg. Division". I found this by looking at Julian Frazier's entry in "The Forgotten Men" on p. 111 which says "See personal papers of B.F. Binns ?, Walter Cook, Elijah Harris, Caswell Mc Elroy" As an aside, "More Forgotten Men" doesn't seem to add any relevant entries for the Fraziers under discussion.

The link I have for the census record does not show the "James M. Frazer" on p. 60 of Linn (or Lynn) township. Ah! I think I found it, it is on p. 66, dwelling 470 of the census but entered as "James M. Fraizer" (note the inversion of the "i" before the "z" instead of after -- that is why it escaped my other searches...should have searched on the children's names since I had identified the wife and kids separately.) Like you, I had noted the other Frazier you mentioned in the household of "S.R. Julian", also a merchant. That particular aspect added confusion for me several weeks ago when I initially could not find the targeted Frazier in the 1860 census.

Yes, I also noticed the TN births and potential crosslinks with Tennessee and the same two sets of Fraziers in Missouri. I haven't pursued the TN link much for the branches. It is little wonder that there was a likely error about who was killed at Humansville. The story of the Wright County and Cedar County Fraziers is an interesting mystery. The one surviving son/brother in Wright Co. might have left something behind in the way of a family story.
