I forgot to indicate where he lived Bruce. 17 miles southeast of Lexington on the road heavily patrolled/travelled by Union from Warrensburg to Lexington. On Davis Creek mentioned often in Union OR. And a mile or two from a camp set up by Union at Mound Prairie Church as part of effort to clear guerrillas from area. I searched OR for references to landmarks near Smarr property and ended up with 26 page transcription of Union messages I sorted into chrono order. They pressure the Union applied intensified throughout 1864 to a sort of crescendo around September 1864.
