I wonder if these letters led Howard Monnett to conclude that Slayback crossed the Big Blue river at Hinkle Ford and flanked Jennison's troops at the Battle of the Big Blue October 22, 1864.

Shelby claimed there was no flanking movement, the force was met head on.

The Union reports indicate that they were flanked.

I've always wonder where Monnett got that information. I can't seem to find it in any of the sources that he listed.

Other than, obviously, the Union reports, but, of course, they never identify the Confederate force that conducted this maneuver.

Anyone with ideas?
