Out of Missouri, By Jennison...to California?

Is Missouri horseflesh in the blood lines of the California race horses? I knew Jennison came out of the war with a fine livestock ranch - but hadn't previously seen mention of the following connection. It is from an obituary of Clifton Bell.

Mr. Bell and the late Gilbert H. Pierce bought the stable of race horses from Colonel Jennison, of the famous “Jennison’s Jayhawkers'' of Leavenworth, Kansas. It is said that the purchase price of the celebrated stable was $10,000. It embraced the flyers “Linster” and “Sophia Jennison” and other well known horse flesh of that time. The horses were afterwards taken to California and sold. This was the starting of the breed of renowned race horses of the Golden state. The Anaconda Standard; Anaconda, Montana. April 12, 1891.
