Price's Raid

There is a statement in the Bleeding Kansas Bleeding Missouri book that after Price abandoned plans to take St. Louis and started west, he veered toward and threatened Columbia. I think there are a number of problems with that analysis, but one question I have is whether or not there was means for Price's main force or any considerable portion of it to cross the Missouri River. Can anyone share any insight into this aspect of Price's campaign?
