George Thornton resigned from West Point in 1861 and was appointed to 1st Lt Artillary Virignia. He is listed in the West Point census as being born 1837 Virginia. 1850 census has him in household with parents in Fairfax, Virginia born 1837. Father is Stuart P Thornton. 1880 finds him in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California. A SAR file lists his birth day as May 29, 1837, Fredericksburg VA. Death 1890 in Sonoma CA.

I have found the middle name as Alexander as well as Augustine, not sure which it is.
