He was a slave owner in 1840 and 1850.

Looking at the census images it appears he was a mercantile merchant living in Independence in 1850 and 1860. Thus the "old Lowe place" may be his original cabin listed in 1840 census. His neighbors in 1840 were Samuel Weston, James Becham, James McCay, G Witte Craw and Eusibeus Franklin.
