Were the Missouri Confederates paroled at Vicksburg exchanged under the Dix--Hill cartel. One of my ancestors was in the 3d MO. Inf. CSA and paroled on on 7/4/1863. He later fought in the Army of Tennessee around Atlanta. A recent article in North South magazine, claims that there was never a legal exchange but cites no authority.
