Here are two Union veterans with that name.

Joseph H. Loyd, Private, Battery E, 2nd Missouri Light Artillery, enlisted July 5, 1862 at St. Louis for 3 years, promoted Corporal November 13, 1862, promoted Sergeant July 20, 1863, detailed to the Regimental Quartermaster Dept. October 23, 1863, promoted Regimental Quartermaster and transferred to Non Commissioned Staff, January 1, 1864, mustered out November 30, 1865 at the Benton Barracks, Mo., description on enlistment, age 26, born Isle of Cuba, Spain, Laborer, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair, 5' 7"
