I agree that this bio is probably the closest to the truth. Thank you very much for your help. This convinces me that Elkins was elaborating extensively his War experience to match others because he was obviously lacking in his own. Another thought, they were in Westport, Upton Hays and many of his men were from Westport. It's possible that he learned the details from someone who was with Hays at some point after the battle.
