Dave Limm

This morning a friend took me to the site of the murder/execution/burial of Dave Limm, north of Clarksburg (Moniteau Station) just over the line from Moniteau into Cooper County. Local tradition is that he was on his horse as a group of riders approached. He raised his hat and shouted "Huzzah for Jeff Davis." The riders surrounded him, then strung him up from a tree. They rode off, leaving him hanging. The neighbors cut him down and buried him on the spot. A cotton rock was placed on the grave with the scratched inscription "here lies Limm". Within the last fifty years someone placed a small metal marker at the site with the inscription "Dave Limm 1861." None of the locals seemed to know any more about him. This is another local story about to be lost, and it shouldn't be. If anyone has any information on Limm or suggestions about finding information on him, your assistance would be most appreciated.
