Re: Charles Brownlee
He and his mother lived in Tipton before the War. I have seen his ads/"cards" in the California newswpapers before the war. That is partly why his story fascinated me - how he went from being a lawyer to a robber/murderer. I was even more intrigued when I read that it was thought the Brownlee/Wilson gang killed my great-great grandfather, Peter Hays, in retaliation for his testimony against another gang member, Paddy Mullins, for stealing cattle. I have heard from a Brownlee relative who would like to know where he is buried, but haven't had any luck finding that. Went to various history collection libraries in Springfield, but didn't learn much new.
