The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

New member saying hello

Hello everyone,

I'm Sean McLachlan. I've been reading this message board on and off for years but I never decided to post until now. I've left Columbia and am living in Spain, so there aren't many people to talk to about the Civil War, the American one at least! Actually, talking with Spaniards about the legacy of their Civil War has given me some insights into the American one. I'll talk about that in a later post.
I've always had an interest in the American Civil War. Unlike many of you, I have no ancestors who fought. I'm actually Canadian. I lived for 12 years in Tucson, near the "westernmost battle of the Civil War" at Picacho Peak. Then I moved to Columbia and became fascinated with the war here.
I'm a freelance writer and have two Civil War titles with Osprey Publishing: "American Civil War Guerrilla Tactics" and "Ride Around Missouri: Shelby's Great Raid 1863". I'm also working on one about the James-Younger gang's Northfield raid in late 2012. My Civil War novel, "A Fine Likeness", comes out next month and is set in mid-Missouri during Price's 1864 campaign.
I'm looking forward to being a participant instead of just a reader at the forum. It's too bad I'm only in Missouri part-time now and am missing so many Sesquicentennial events. Please post all the details of the events you attend!
