Savage Revolvers

This document, a recent discovery:
" Invoice of Ordn. & Ordn. Stores transferred by John J. Scherer, Jr. Capt. & Actg. Ordn. Officer 3rd Mil. Dist. EMM to John J. Seibel Capt. Comg. Co. A 8th Provl. Regt. EMM Potosi, Mo. June 5, 1863, 3 Savage Revolvers & appgds. I certify that I have this day transferred th foregoing articles to the Officer above name. Jno. J. Scherer, Jr. Capt. & Actg. Ordn. Offcr. 3rd Mil. Dist. EMM."

In the Cyrus A. Peterson Battle of Pilot Knob Research Collection, Henry C. Wilkinson Letters, Wilkinson states "...Co. K was relieved by order of Gov. Gamble to return to their homes, about the first of April, 1863 to look after their crops. Some of us were allowed to take our big Savage revolvers home with us. They looked savage and were long and heavy and were actually savage when you could persuade one to fire. They were good snappers though." The Co. K was in the 68th EMM commanded by Col. James Lindsay.

Also an Internet site reveals that the Enrolled Missouri Militia were issued 292 Savages for use, but without a reference. Does anyone know of the reference source for this statement.
