Carl, that is what I thought at first. I have found a few documents that also call it "Cow Island". I'm transcribing now. Covington and Williams were both Reeve's men. The Holders I haven't found much on as yet. Covington's first name should read Elijah. It all seems to revolve around a wealthy southern gentleman by the name of Joshua Epps. A couple of his neighbors ratted him out for harboring and feeding rebs. One of them was a guy by the name of David Manning. Manning also had a son named David. Young David Manning was a member of Company L, 3rd MSM. The Elder Manning gave a statement to the asst. PM but, when it came time to testify, he had absconded. So, no trial, Joshua Epps died at Alton, no charges, no trial.
