Cletis, I hope you are writing this story, it's a good one. In this instance and the similar events occurring in Wayne and Reynolds Counties the Ku Klux Klan thugs were better known to the local population as Sons of Liberty. A portion of the suspected membership mirrors that of the Barnesville Masonic lodge when it was rechartered. And, I think that was 1870 or 1872. And not all of them were former confederates. Some were strong Unionist leaning democrats who recognized the need for the area to be governed by non-carpetbaggers. Thomas Callahan was the school teacher a Pinedale on Logan Creek and plays a large role in what is known of these events. I have some of the Iron County newspaper articles if you need them.
