Company F, 2nd regiment, Colorado Calvary

I have in my possession the Certificate of Service of my Great Grandfather Joseph Flynn, a private in the 2nd Regiment, Company F of the Colorado Calvary.

"This is to certify that Joseph H Flynn, who was enrolled on the 1st day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty two, to serve three years, was discharged on the first day of December, 1863, by Reason of Disability, at Leavenworth Kansas while holding rank of Private in Company "F", 2nd regiment of Colorado Calvary Volunteers."

Signed by a name which is illegible, but whose title was "Captain and Asst. Surgeon of Army".

I would be very interested in any information I could find related to his service and in the activities of this unit.

I would also appreciate any explanations which may be given for the discrepencies of the dates of his enlistment versus the historical record of when these regiments were supposed to have been formed.

Thx
