Zachariah G. Cooper, 46 year old Farmer, born in Nelson County, Kentucky, resident of Jackson County, Missouri, Private, Company E, 6th Regiment Missouri Infantry**, enlisted January 1, 1862 at Springfield, Missouri by T. H. Rosser for one year, detailed in Quartermaster Department as Blacksmith December 10, 1862, discharged at Grand Gulf, Mississippi as being over Conscript age, March 28, 1863, previously served in Missouri State Guard as Private in Company I, Roser's Battalion, Infantry, 8th Division, participated in engagements at: Lexington, Elkhorn & Iuka, no further records

** This company formerly served as Company A, 3rd Battalion Missouri Cavalry; it became Company E, 6th Regiment Missouri Infantry, about August 23, 1862
