John S. Brawner of the 27th MO Inf appears to have enlisted on August 8, 1862 at Hudson, MO. (Hudson was literally across the street from Macon. The two towns merged right before the War to create the current Macon).

The Battle of Kirksville was two days earlier and the Union troops at Kirksville did not get down to Macon until the 9th.

John S. Brawner was listed as 40 years old (anywhere from 35 to 50) and from Bourbon County, KY. He was a carpenter and a wagon maker in service. Does this sound like your guy?
