I was going thru the Regimental Index of civilwararchieves.com and was suprised to learn that over 100k White men alone from Confederate States served in the Union Army or in homeguard units against CSA troops or partisan rangers. I noticed that the 1st Ark Cav USV seemed to have served a fair amount of time against Bushwackers. The 2nd Ark seems to have spent less time in Mo. I have heard that Ark USV infantry units fought against Price's invasion of 1864 but I didn't see it listed.
My question is since the Ark troops were of course Southern did they treat the civilians with more respect then Kansas troops many of whom were from New England and thought themselves far superior to Missourians? By respect I do not mean singing Kumbaya by the camp fire but operating within the lawful orders of the US Army.
Were there other Southern USV units in Mo? Were the Ark units considered brave or of questionable efficency such has many EMM units?
Thanks in advance,
Leonard
