Re: Disposition of the Centralia dead

Wish I had that information for you, Neil. Here is the report from the Official Records (Ser. 1, Vol. 41, Pt. 3, pp. 522-523)

Mexico, September 30, 1864
General Fisk:
I have no official news from General Douglass. Well authenticated rumors say he is pressing after the rebels in Callaway County. Colonel Dyer's forces captured two of the men who participated in the Centralia massacre yesterday, and they stated that Thrailkill left Singletone with the intention of crossing the river and joining Pap Price. They paroled the two bushwhackers, and the rebels at Florence buried them.
FRANK D. EVANS
Assistant Adjutant-General

While the names are not mentioned, perhaps the newspapers, especially one of the regional ones, reported the names. Microfilm for the Paris Mercury and Columbia Statesman exists for the war era--but a lot of issues are missing so I don't know how successful a search of them might be. The Louisiana (Mo.) Journal has almost 100 percent of its issues preserved on microfilm for the war era--perhaps it might have reported the names, given the very strong Pike County component as it relates to both Johnston and Dyer. If anyone follows this line of research please let us know if you come up with anything.
