Re: Allison murders, Camden Co. 1863

I think that I might have a motivation for the murder of Hugh Allison and perhaps some of his family in Benton County.

From: Missouri's Union Provost Marshal Papers: 1861 - 1866
Allison, Hugh Benton [County] Arrested for participating in a robbery of McClurg's store at Linn Creek. Claims he is innocent and victim of spite by member of Home Guard. He is a Southern man, but does not support rebellion. N.D. F1216

Allison, Hugh Benton [County] Oath 01-22-1862 F1216

Joseph W. McClurg owned a store at Linn Creek, Missouri. He was in Washington, D.C. when his store was destroyed by rebel raiders. [This may be what is referred to above].

Colonel J. W. McClurg was the commanding Colonel of the 8th Cavalry, Missouri State Militia from May 2, 1862.

Did his Militia boys go hunting for the raiders? Was that why Hugh Allison was murdered?

I hate to say that because one of my gg grandfathers was in the 8th, Co I, so it could be possible that he might have had a hand in this thing.
