Joseph W. McClurg owned a store at Linn Creek, Missouri. He was in Washington, D.C. when his store was destroyed by rebel raiders. [This may be what is referred to above].

Colonel J. W. McClurg was the commanding Colonel of the 8th Cavalry, Missouri State Militia from May 2, 1862.
Did his Militia boys go hunting for the raiders? Was that why Hugh Allison was murdered?
I hate to say that because one of my gg grandfathers was in the 8th, Co I, so it could be possible that he might have had a hand in this thing.
