Thanks for the reply, I'm quite familiar with the Turner Brigade. Perhaps I should have stated the question more clearly, "What pieces were used IN Missouri?". Its not too hard to track down some pretty reliable info on Union batteries organized from Missouri but they typically ended up anywhere but Missouri. MSG to Confederate batteries are a bit harder to follow but Jim McGhee's work is pretty easy to follow but again many of those units saw little action in Missouri. So I've been looking at the Cavalry units with guns and the units from Nebraska and Iowa. Appears there was a 24 pound field gun passed back and forth at Bloomfield, the infamous Woodruff, a number of 1841 6 pounders mentioned, clearly some Cavalry units seem to have been equiped with a battery of 4 12 pound field howitzers late in the war though often never organized as a formal battery, and a number of 12 pound Mountain howitzers that always seem to be mentioned as to their disassembled nature during transport by mule or horse, almost like "we only put the wheels on to the fire the thing". Of course to be fair to the Navy guys, the most frequent use may have been waterborne cannon on the rivers of the state. Its just one of those questions that pop up in conversation and what would appear to be straight forward to answer just turns into more and more of a mystery. Kind of like researching the Civil War in Missouri, you often end up with more questions than answers. :>)
