Re: Newbie looking for Jo Shelby

Terry
My gg-grandfather was W(illiam) D(avid) SPAIN. He and three brothers, Henderson, Richard, and Robert, were all in the same outfit. Also, I believe, were five cousins, the brothers RENFRO, another cousin Patrick McLEMORE (I think Pat was in a different Company), and some other relatives. All were from Dade County MO. A 1917 article by Lewis RENFRO lists some roster and casualties as he recollected and I think Jo SHELBY was in that unit at the beginning. I believe it was originally headed by COFFEE and I have already learned so much here at this site about some of the circumstances concerning the change in leadership. This 1917 article mentions that Rich SPAIN was killed in Arkansas. The others all survived including all five RENFRO brothers. Neil Block was kind enough to note that his information is that Rich died of disease. I imagine that specific casualty details are pretty hard to document at this distance in time so I am assuming he got sick after getting wounded and both facts are correct. (If you die of infection three weeks after getting shot is that KIA or disease??)
The burial place of Richard SPAIN is unknown today. I would like to figure out where he died.
Thanks Terry
Tom
