The battle around Byram's ford in the Battle of Westport, October 22 and 23, 1864, involved charges up what the Byram brothers called Potato Hill when they lived there before the war. The bronze tablet near Byram's Ford shows a cross near the crossing. Accounts describe Marmaduke's sharshooters deploying from a cabin nearby. Does anyone know if this cabin was built by the Byrams?
